Brazilians don't stop the vehicles at pedestrian crossing

It's such a simple thing that makes everything to everyone better! The pedestrian is on their way by walk, and you are sitting in a vehicle with AC at 21,5°C listening to music, and you cannot stop for them? The transit law says the pedestrians always have preference, but don't try that in Brazil. Maybe it's a regional thing. But in Belo Horizonte that does not happen, and you will get crashed if you don't wait for a reasonable and civilized person to stop and let you go. Traveling to Europe it feels so nice and secure and welcoming to cross the street whenever you want…
